Objectives

South African born Shenae and her husband Matthew bought their new home in Northampton with ambitions to extending and modernising it to suit their young families changing lifestyles.
Matthew, who runs his own civil engineering firm and Shenae are both very design aware and had some firm ideas on how they wanted the finished project to look – clean, white and open plan being the main considerations for the public areas such as the kitchen, breakfast and family room.
Having seen a Schuller kitchen supplied by RFK being installed on a well known TV home improvement show they sought us out and immediately fell in love with the Schuller Next125 display that takes pride of place at the front of the RFK Rugby showroom.

What We Did

The design features a tall bank of ‘pocket door’ units which, when opened, reveal a pull out larder, a double ‘breakfast unit’ and a matched pair of Neff ‘Slide & Hide’ ovens. These units are from the NX650 range and the external doors are in Old Oak veneer while the interior cabinets have been supplied in Lava black Satin Lacquer which creates a soft contrast to the light grey of the cabinet interior.
The Island and tall units surrounding the American style fridge freezer are from the NX500 range and are finished in a deep Indigo Blue Satin Lacquer with inset st/st handles.
All of the island cabinets on the working side of the kitchen feature deep storage drawers and this design detail has been repeated with the dishwasher frontal and sink drawers to maintain the design line.
On the reverse the island is surmounted by a 60mm thick saw cut Tobacco Oak veneer cantilevered breakfast bar and below is a double sliding door unit for ease of access. Behind which is concealed the downdraft extractor motor. A Cm wine cooler sits to one side of this unit and the whole island has been framed with 13mm ultra slim decor end panels and a 12mm thick Silestone Carbona worktop completing the ‘Less is More’ look of this feature island.
The whole kitchen sits on louvered st/st plinths on which strip LED lights have been installed, as well as on top of the tall units, giving the illusion of the whole kitchen floating a few inches off the floor. The consistent use of large, off white, porcelain floor tiles and subtle, minimalist furniture and decorations have completed this stunning kitchen by ensuring the eye is drawn to the main event.

The Result

Shenea and Matthew are both delighted with the final result as it delivers not just as a ‘WOW’ factor kitchen but also functions extremely well and they are now keen to complete the finishing touches to the rest of what has been a mammoth undertaking.
